Stearns-Montgomery and Proctor is pleased to announce that we have three new attorneys joining our team of experienced Marietta Family Law Attorneys. All three attorneys possess strong knowledge in Family Law and bring new strengths and experience to our team.
Family Law is a second career for Lucy, so she brings an added level of maturity to the firm along with multiple years of Family Law experience. Lucy said she decided to focus on Family Law because, “There are times when I can genuinely make a difference in someone’s life, primarily by helping them navigate through what is often one of the most difficult times of their lives.”
Michaela knew that she wanted to be a Family Law attorney since she was young. Clients often describe Michaela as personable, attentive, and assertive. She always takes a proactive approach to overcoming obstacles and resolving issues in support of her clients’ goals and best interest. The congeniality of the attorney team drew Michaela to join Stearns-Montgomery & Proctor.
Douglas Hassinger has been practicing Family Law in Atlanta for over 14 years, including 9 years as the principal of his own firm. Doug started his legal career as a general litigator, but quickly decided to focus on helping families through their emotionally trying situations.Clients appreciate Doug’s compassion, as well as his experience with the county courts and judges, which helps him navigate through the complex legal system. |

Marietta Family Law Attorney In The Spotlight – Chris Hobson |
Chris recently represented a grandmother attempting to gain temporary custody of her granddaughter. The biological parents of the child were together and raising the child but were homeless and addicted to prescription painkillers. The family did not have a steady income and had lived in over 12 different residences in the past six months.
Understanding the urgency of the situation Chris filed a Deprivation Action in Juvenile Court instead of filing in Superior Court, which is a much slower process. Aware that proving Deprivation in a Juvenile Court is very difficult, Chris felt confident that he could collect enough evidence to prove the child did not currently have proper parental care.
One of the many obstacles to child custody cases in Georgia is proving that the biological parents are unfit to raise the child because the Judge would rather the child be raised by their biological parents. Chris proved the parents abused prescription painkillers by asking the Judge to order a drug test and random follow up drug screenings with the parents. When the parents refused to comply with the ordered drug test the Judge concluded they were not clean and had a drug problem.
After only 2 months from the time the case began Chris won his case and the Judge awarded the grandmother temporary custody to the child. We would like to recognize Chris for being aggressive when necessary and thinking outside the box to win a very important case.
